Ruth Lloyd is a London-based design researcher with a background in textile design. Her practice sits at the intersection of textile design, textile colouration, and biological technology, with a particular focus on biodesign.
She is currently undertaking a PhD at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, in partnership with Colorifix. Her doctoral research explores the development of microbial colourant-based print processes for industrial applications, as well as the creation of a colour system to support their adoption and use within industry.
Ruth’s journey into living colour systems began during her Master’s degree at the Royal College of Art, where she first investigated how microbial colourants could be integrated into human-designed textile pattern processes. Alongside her academic research, she also undertakes consultancy and R&D work, specialising in sustainable colourants and print innovation.
