A key element of this research project was the development of an understanding of how this living colour systems operates across different fibres and fabrics.
On some fibres it grows a vibrant shade of pink which, once neutralised and fixed fades to a soft mauve or deep aubergine, on other fibre types it grows initially orange then deepening to a rusty red, but rarely fixes well.
All these experimental protocols develop and understanding which in turn allows the development of more refined and complex methods of applying this microbial colour.
